A LETTER FROM JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER |
| |
Welcome to The Rhythm Road: American Music Abroad, a program that Jazz at Lincoln Center is honored to be administering for the United States Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. We have created this website to help you to access all our events happening around the world and to provide instructional materials for students, teachers, parents, and indeed anyone interested in learning exactly what jazz is all about.
The mission of The Rhythm Road is to share American’s unique contribution to the world of music. Jazz at Lincoln Center and the U.S. Department of State are producing ten tours featuring six jazz quartets and four American urban music quartets to represent American music overseas. The artists have been selected from a national pool of applicants and together they reflect the talent and diversity of musicians across the United States. Their biographies are all on the site too.
The artists on The Rhythm Road are traveling in the Fall of 2007 and Spring of 2008, performing in countries that are not regularly visited by American musicians. Tour activities include public concerts, master classes, lecture-demonstrations, workshops, jam sessions, media outreach, and collaborations with local musicians.
To kick off the tour, each ensemble is presented in a free concert at the National Geographic Society in Washington D.C..
and at our wonderful home in New York City, Frederick P. Rose Hall.
My colleagues at Jazz at Lincoln Center and I hope that you will enjoy exploring this site.
Let us know what you think,
Adrian Ellis
Executive Director
